How to take Care of Dry and Damaged Rebonded Hair

Rebonding is a very popular process nowadays in order to achieve a straight and silky hair. And no matter what your stylist may promise about the product, your hair will still get damaged at different extent depending on the type of products that has been used. So here are some tips to take care of a rebonded hair:
Taking care of a rebonded hair must start even before the procedure. Tell your stylist everything about your hair, including recent treatments especially hair coloring, hair straightening, conditioning and other routines. This information will give your stylist an idea on what kind of rebonding solution will be used to your hair, whether the rebonding procedure must be delayed or not, and if it is needed to treat your hair before rebonding.. This procedure is necessary to avoid hair damage during and after rebonding.
Right after the Rebonding
You will be instructed not to wet your newly rebonded hair for three days after the procedure. This may mean oily and smelly hair, but this step is important so that the chemicals will be better absorbed by your hair. Another thing is to avoid tying your hair or putting it behind your ears so it won’t get an odd shape. After three days, you can now shampoo your hair, making sure that you wash away all the chemicals because any residue can cause scalp itching and irritation. Prefer to use keratin as your conditioner to make your rebonded hair more moisturized.
Maintaining your Hair after rebonding:
• Use cold water to wash your hair. Hot water will wash away its natural oil,leaving your hair dull and dry.
• Use a wide toothed comb which is preferably made of wood to separate tangles. Plastic combs create static resulting to frizzy hair.
• Avoid shampooing your hair every day if it’s not dirty or greasy. Use conditioner instead or alternate days when you shampoo your hair.
• Use a hat or umbrella to protect your hair from UV rays that can cause hair damage.
• Avoid heating tools such as steaming pad and blow drying. If you need to dry your hair, use a cool blast of air, or better- air dry your hair.
• Have a “hair rest” for at least six months. This means no highlighting, hair coloring, and hair streaking. Your hair has just been exposed to high dose of straightening chemicals. Let it relax for some time.
• Have your hair trimmed regularly to remove any split ends that may travel up the length of your hair.
• Avoid swimming on the beach or in the pool, because chlorinated and salt water can damage your rebonded hair.
Nourish your hair-inside and out
• Use a leave on conditioner, or a hair serum to keep retain hair moisture, prevents dryness and act as a barrier against environmental pollutants.
• Get a hair spa, hair mask or keratin treatment at least once a week to nourish and moisturize your hair.
• Have a nutritious diet. Include nuts such as cashews, almonds, and fruits and vegetables to achieve a healthy hair.
