Metabolism is our bodies’ way to process food into energy for our daily activities. A healthy metabolic rate means more energy to burn calories whether at rest or not. Here is how you can boost your metabolism for a healthier lifestyle:
Don’t skip meals
To boost your metabolism, stop skipping meals because your body is most likely to store extra calories that later will be turned to fat. Remember not to starve yourself and do not forget to have a hearty breakfast to jump-start your metabolism making sure you have enough fuel for the day.
Drink coffee or tea
Coffee and tea have caffeine which stimulates the central nervous system and blood pressure which increases your metabolic rate by burning more calories for your energy needs.
Stack up on protein
Protein helps boost metabolism because it takes more time for the body to process. Incorporating protein in your diet makes you feel fuller and uses more energy to digest it.
Sleep
Sleep is part of the metabolic process and not having enough may slow down your metabolism. Lack of sleep affects your hormones ghrelin (hormone indicating hunger) and leptin (hormone for fullness), which causes you to binge eat and be inactive.
